Team RightAngle is a group of student volunteers, which was initially formed for the Interdisciplinary Project Work (IPW) in Victoria School. After teachers introduced the Citibank - YMCA Youth for Causes 2005, we took part in it with the main objective of helping the underprivileged, which in our case, are the orphans of Darul Ihsan Orphanage.

The reason for choosing an orphanage was simple. Orphans are children who need special attention to help them get going in life in spite of their situation. We also learnt from the NPO Representative that some of them had loss both parents while some come from single-parent families where the mother or father cannot afford to support their daily needs. Therefore, it was only practical that we helped these orphans through this fund-raising activity in order to support their daily requirements.

Over the period of 12 weeks, we helped this orphanage in many ways. The most memorable one of which was the 3-day camp we organised for the orphans in the school building during the June Holidays. We interacted and had fun with these orphans. We got to know their personal situation better that motivated us even more to raise funds for the Orphanage. We believe that we had as much fun as the orphans did.

As soon as the camp ended, we started on the next phase, which was manufacturing. During our first production, we encountered many difficulties and wasted a lot of time and money. This was the first big mistake we made through the course of this project. However, we overcame this error and carried out the more successful second and third production of fridge magnets. After which, we organised 2 door-to-door sales on 30th July and 6th August and 1 donation drive on 27th August. From these three occasions, we raised a total of about $2500 (inclusive of the seed funding).
